Natural gas runs your water heater, and in a lot of San Antonio homes it also runs the stove, the dryer and the furnace. When something goes wrong with a gas line, it’s a safety problem first and a plumbing problem second. That’s why gas work should always be handled by a licensed plumber.
The Right Guyz is licensed by the State of Texas as a Responsible Master Plumber (RMP-46340). We install gas water heaters every week, and each one includes a new flexible gas connection and a check of the gas shut-off and venting.
If you smell gas
Leave the house and get everyone out, including pets. Don’t flip switches, use your phone inside or light anything. Once you’re outside, call your gas company’s emergency line or 911. After the gas company has made the area safe, call us at (210) 744-4397 to find and repair the problem.
Signs of a gas line problem
- The rotten egg smell that’s added to natural gas
- A hissing or whistling sound near a gas line or appliance
- Dead or dying grass in a line across the yard
- A pilot light that keeps going out
- A gas bill that goes up for no reason
- Physical damage to a gas pipe or connector
Common gas work we see
Water heater gas connections. Every gas water heater we install gets a new flexible gas connector, and we check the shut-off valve and venting while we’re there. Old, uncoated brass connectors are a known risk, and we replace them when we find them.
Tankless water heater gas supply. A gas tankless water heater needs a lot more gas than a tank. Before installing one, we check whether the existing line and meter can keep up.
Leaking fittings and corroded pipe. Older homes can have gas piping that has corroded or fittings that have loosened over the years. We find the leak, repair it and pressure test the system.
Done safely and to code
Gas work isn’t the place for shortcuts. We use approved materials, pressure test our work and make sure everything meets code. We’ll also explain what we did in English or Spanish, so your whole family understands what was fixed and how to stay safe.
